Information about common skin care ingredients and products

Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that promotes anti-aging effects on the skin.  From numerous research publications, retinol was found to promote skin renewal, enhance collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and reverse the signs of photoaging and pigmentation.

Vitamin C is a naturally occurring potent antioxidant.  When applied to the skin, it offers protection against damaging free radicals that are produced when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light and during the aging process.

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that helps to protect the skin from various damaging effects due to solar radiation.  It can also be used to help improve the appearance of scarring and restore moisture, to give the skin a smoother appearance.

AHAs and BHAs are types of hydroxy-acids that work to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells from the surface.  They can be utilized to stimulate collagen, improve the appearance of pigmentation, combat redness and acne.

The surface of our skin is occupied by dead and mature skin cells that constantly develop.  Exfoliators are utilized to help remove these layers of skin to show new and fresher skin. With appropriate use, it can help improve complexion, dullness, and give radiance to the skin.

Toner refers to a product that helps improve the tone and pigmentation of the skin. It is well known fact that a clear and even complexion is a sign of youth and beautiful skin.  Toner comes in different formulations and should be unique for your skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that comes in the form of a liquid and gel.  It can be utilized to quickly restore moisture to the tops layers of skin without leaving a heavy moisturized feel.

Moisturizers are utilized to restore and maintain hydration of the skin.  They protect the skin from elements that can be drying such as low humidity, sun damage, and individuals prone to dry skin.

Physical sunscreens protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays. The commonly used ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.  UVA and UVB exposure are known to cause skin damage, pigmentation, and increase the risk of various types of skin cancer.  Nonetheless, the best protection is to stay out of the sun.
